“GRAY SERIES”
The Carnegie Art Museum presents Ruth Pastine: Present Tense, an exhibition of selected paintings and works on paper from 2010 – 2015. Pastine’s minimalist works address phenomena of perception and the immateriality of matter, and emphasize the event of the viewer’s encounter with the object. On exhibit are thirty-two works, from seven different series, installed in six galleries. In each room the artist features her investigation of a newly defined formal and color system. Unique to her oeuvre, Pastine installs a selection of Gray Series pastels, which explore the perceptual experience of light and spatial interplay through nuanced value shifts and tonal modulations within the perfect geometry of the square.
