“COUNTERPOINT”
Counterpoint features Ruth Pastine’s pastel works on paper, which expand upon the artist’s Primary Red, Blue, and Yellow Series with polychromatic systems within the perfect geometry and finitude of the square. Pastine engages heightened chromatic transitions with the introduction of the “edge,” common to hard edge abstraction, within her atmospheric color field explorations. Focused on the phenomena of color perception and color relativity, the parameters and edges further defined by the materiality of the medium, paradoxically afford an advancement of immaterial investigations of light and spatial interplay within the visual field.
