CHANCE RAYS
Chance Rays features Ruth Pastine’s nearly monochromatic paintings that engage the artist’s Red Green, Blue Orange, and Yellow Violet Series in the Suprematist square. Pastine advances her minimalist works through rigorous formal systems. In optically seamless gradients composed with nuanced admixtures of complementary hues, Pastine’s surfaces appear to pulse with an inner luminosity towards the periphery of the surface continuum. Pastine’s finite color palette, paradoxically affords the essential parameters that access limitless possibility.
Pastine continues to evolve pure abstraction and the concept of Minimalist theory. Through her work, color and light are reduced to their most elemental form; working with oil-on-canvas thousands of small brush strokes appear visually seamless, producing an image that is both objective and dematerialized. Challenging our preconceptions, Pastine explores the subtle character and nuance of color. Pastine’s manipulation of color, light, and matter questions the perceptual experience and redefines the visual field.
